Tire Distributor
The Customer
A nationwide tire and auto parts distributor with 20+ warehouses was expanding its product sales into Canada, with six new warehouses planned.
The Challenge
The company needed to make sure that its ERP system and its custom website would function correctly (a.) in the United States after Canadian operations began, and (b.) in Canada, with the correct functions, data, and language capabilities. The company has used JD Edwards OneWorld Xe since 2002, without upgrades, but with plenty of custom improvements, especially in the form of a huge sales website, through which car dealers order tires, batteries, and chemicals for their customers. The sales website represents most of the company's business, although they maintain a large call center for customers to call if they have difficulty with the website, or they need something that is not listed on the website.
The Solution
Intelligo's long history of experience in documenting ERP system functionality, performing system testing, and developing and conducting end-user training made Intelligo the company's first choice for testing new functions in their JD Edwards ERP system.
Intelligo provided extensive scriptwriting, system testing, issue tracking and issue resolution in two stages:
Stage 1: As-Is Testing
- Developed templates for test script steps and data scenario elements
- Designed test scenarios based on the current system's functionality, and writing test scripts to support those scenarios
- Tested the existing US transactions and setup with US data, after Canadian data was entered into the system, to ensure that the presence of Canadian data did not disrupt the current business process
- Deconstructed and documented the entire Electronic Data Interchange process
- Coordinated and conducted end-user testing with business users, to get their sign-off that the transactions worked correctly
- Identified issues, logging them, tracking them, working with IT and with business users to get the issues resolved
Stage 2: To-Be Testing
- Designed test scenarios based on the future system's planned functionality, and writing test scripts to support those scenarios
- Tested future transactions and setup, using Canadian data
- Coordinated and conducted end-user testing with business users, to get their sign-off that the transactions worked correctly
- Identified issues, logging them, tracking them, working with IT and with business users to get the issues resolved
- Intelligo worked extensively with the development team to identify transaction steps, transaction data, and to document them in script format. Intelligo worked closely with business users to identify any transactions that had been missed or were incorrect, and resolved outstanding issues. Intelligo led regular meetings, both with small groups and with the entire project team and related business users (30+ people).
Intelligo's Value-Add
Intelligo's efforts were a major contribution to the success of the project, said the company's project manager, and the sentiment was echoed by the lead website developer. Both agreed that without Intelligo, if testing had been conducted at all, it would have not been conducted as thoroughly or with the diligence required for issue tracking and issue resolution. In fact, the company has requested more script development, system testing, and issue tracking services from Intelligo, this time for another project.
Intelligo is proud to have been able to help the company with its continuous business development efforts, supporting it through system testing, script development and issue resolution.
