The Customer

J.R. Simplot Company, a privately held agribusiness corporation headquartered in Boise, Idaho, is among the nation's largest privately held businesses. They are one of the world's largest frozen-potato processors, annually turning out 3 billion pounds of french fries and other potato products.

Simplot's business pursuits include food processing, fertilizer manufacturing, agriculture and related businesses with annual revenues over three billion dollars. With nearly 12, 000 employees in multiple locations, the company is recognized as a leader in new products and production efficiency in the food industry. Their commitment to research and development enables them to provide innovative, competitively priced products.

The Challenge

J.R. Simplot Company is implementing J.D. Edwards OneWorld Enterprise Resource Planning system to consolidate all of their data into one system. Presently they have a multitude of legacy systems; these will be replaced by the new system. The goal is to provide all of their users with real-time transaction data all housed in one system and an Enterprise Data Warehouse for reporting information that is not time-sensitive.

To accomplish this goal, Simplot wanted the following:

To provide documentation and training services to IBM who would be conducting Executive Visioning, gathering detailed requirements, designing, building, implementing and moving OneWorld applications into production.
To assist IBM in a seamless rollout. Due to the competitive nature of the Food Industry, manufacturing and customer service cannot be disrupted when the system is implemented.

Simplot needed trainers who could travel to various locations that were due to go-live with J.D. Edwards at the same time (Vernal, Smokey, Lathrop, for example) to teach Train-the-Trainer courses. Simplot also needed support for all Finance and Human Resources/Payroll training at these locations.

The Solution

Due to the size of the roll out, the system was implemented to different divisions in multiple phases:

Phase 1 - Was rolled out to Agribusiness and included Procure to Pay, Order to Cash, Product to Order, and aspects of Manage the Business including Plant/Equipment Maintenance, Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, Fixed Assets and Job Cost.
Phase 2 - Was rolled out to bring additional fertilizer manufacturing facilities onto the same version of J.D. Edwards from a legacy version.
Phase 3 - To be rolled out to the. Food Group in two stages: Stage one includes Procure to Pay, Order to Cash, and Plant/Equipment Maintenance; Stage two will include Product to Order.

Intelligo worked with the client Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Core Team and IBM's Implementation team to provide end-user documentation and training materials for end-users across multiple plant locations and office locations. Intelligo attended decision-making workshops and provided detailed workshop documentation to the Core and Implementation teams including documentation of To Be business processes. Train-the-Trainer classes were held to train the SMEs to deliver end-user training.

Intelligo delivered end-user training materials that designated trainers can use for their classes and eventually download to Simplot Company's intranet. To prepare Simplot trainers for their classes and introduce them to its training materials, Intelligo conducted Train-the-Trainer sessions.

Intelligo's Value-Add

To ensure communication between Intelligo and the other teams, a project manager was dedicated to the project. Using our customizable Content Library, end-user documentation and training materials reflecting Simplot Company's business processes transactions were developed and finalized.

Working closely with the client's training manager, Intelligo's project manager assisted with class design and training scheduling. Having taught Train-the-Trainer classes for over 10 years, Intelligo instructors delivered solid Train-the-Trainer classes. These classes are designed to familiarize instructors with the system and our training materials. Using this option, allows the client to draw on the knowledge of their SMEs for training their end users.
