The Customer

DePuy Acromed, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, designs, manufactures and distributes orthopaedic devices and supplies. Headquartered in Raynham, Massachusetts, DePuy Acromed has partnered with leading clinicians and researchers to develop products to treat spinal disorders for over 20 years. DePuy is considered to be one of the frontrunners in the worldwide spine device market.

The Challenge

DePuy Acromed needed standardized business practices and processing methods for order entry, order fulfillment and financial processing. They selected J.D. Edwards' enterprise software to make their processes more efficient and to offer company-wide visibility of all current and past transactions.

DePuy needed to develop customized, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliant end-user documentation and training materials for J.D. Edwards Procure to Pay and Order to Cash processes as well as documenting IBM's ERP Bridge barcode scanner processes.

As a company that takes pride in their ability to provide superior products and service to their customers, DePuy's documentation and training had to support a smooth transition from the legacy system to the new J.D. Edwards system.

The Solution

Because the timeframe between system test and go-live was to be very short, Intelligo worked hand-in-hand with DePuy's core team and with Born Consulting long before system testing, to ensure that the documentation was accurate as the system was developed. Intelligo delivered Train-the-Trainer classes to the DePuy core team, department leads, and Subject Matter Experts so that they could provide effective training to the users. Intelligo wrote customized work instructions in Microsoft Word. We then loaded these documents into the Agile FDA-compliant document management system, where trainers and users could access them easily.

Intelligo's Value-Add
Intelligo consultants used our Content Library and our automated Microsoft Word templates to quickly customize our generic content to match DePuy's use of the J.D. Edwards software. We wrote detailed work instructions and quick reference cards for Procure To Pay and Order To Cash functionality in J.D. Edwards, as well as for DePuy's custom-built ExpressCare software that was designed to manage consignment inventory in hospitals and doctors' offices. We also trained DePuy's core team and key users in how to train their end-users, which greatly magnified the original number of trainers and allowed DePuy to deliver training in less than a quarter of the time that had been contemplated. Intelligo also saved DePuy several man-months of time and tens of thousands of dollars compared to the money and time that DePuy would have spent had they done the work themselves.
