The Customer
Barton Incorporated is the largest independent (non-brewery owned) beer marketer in the U.S., and its rate of growth continues to set the pace in the industry. Based in Chicago, Illinois, Barton represents six of the top 25 imported beer brands - more than any other importer - and the company have continuously outpaced industry growth, selling some 48 million cases nationally.
The Challenge
Barton started its SAGE Project (Strengthening and Aligning for Growth and Excellence) to:
| Implement the J.D. Edwards Enterprise Resource Planning system | |||
| Successfully build or enable Strategic Business Capabilities that are needed to accelerate Barton's growth | |||
| Use the implementation to provide accurate data and tools to manage the organization | |||
Barton's legacy systems needed to be replaced to help Barton meet its defined Strategic Business Capabilities (SBC). Among these requirements was the ability to facilitate mergers and acquisitions for Barton.
Barton needed end-user documentation and training materials for J.D. Edwards' Financial and Distribution modules. Barton also needed a full-scale performance support program that included the following:
| Design and Requirements Documentation | ||
| End User Documentation | ||
| Business Process Flows developed in ProVision Modeler format | ||
| End User Training | ||
| Assigning students to scheduled classes |
The Solution
Intelligo participated in Barton's design workshops, creating detailed design and requirements documents that the SAGE team used to configure the software. Intelligo then worked closely with the SAGE core team and with IBM consultants during the configuration phase to develop customized end user documentation, process flows and training materials for the Barton end users. Intelligo used Microsoft Word and ProVision Solution Modeler to design end-user documentation and training materials that the SAGE team could easily maintain after "go-live."
After Intelligo developed the end user materials, process flows, and training materials, the Intelligo consultants taught Train-the-Trainer classes to SAGE team members who would become trainers. The Train-the-Trainer classes helped Barton ensure that its instructors could deliver consistent, high-quality training to the end-users.
Intelligo provided customized end-user training to the Barton Customer Service department for the custom-built customer order entry system.
Intelligo's Value-Add
Intelligo consultants used our customizable Content Library to quickly develop end-user documentation and classroom training materials (exercises, quizzes, and data sheets) in a short period of time, to meet Barton's training schedule. Intelligo also designed Barton's training curriculum and scheduled the students for training.
Intelligo ensured that Barton would be self-sufficient going forward in its training effort by delivering several Train-the-Trainer classes. These classes gave the trainers the experience they needed to use our materials and to train users on the system in a simple, methodical manner designed to maximize students' understanding and retention of the material.
Intelligo also provided end-user training to Barton's Customer Service department on Barton's custom-build order entry system. This relieved a resource shortage on the SAGE team, while ensuring that the Barton Customer Service department was ready to "go live" with the rest of the company on the new system.
